“Witches Brew” Organic Whole Mulling Spices
Homemade blend of dried orange slices and organic whole spices including cinnamon sticks, star anise, allspice, cloves, green cardamom pods and a whole clove in a pint size mason jar.
These are excellent when used as mulling spices for deliciously warm spiced wine or cider, so yummy & cozy! Add about one tablespoon of loose spices, one dried orange slice, and 1-2 cinnamon sticks to one bottle of inexpensive red wine or jug of unfiltered apple cider and simmer on low to medium heat for about 20 minutes or until heated to your desired temperature.
Or, simmer a handful (1/4 cup) on the stove in fresh filtered water to deliver a delightful aroma to your home. Keep and eye on the water and add continuously throughout the day. I like to put a lid on the pot at the end of the day and fire it up again the next. There are about 2-3 simmer pots worth in each jar.
Tip: for simmer pots, I like to add fresh evergreen needles (i.e. bottom branches of your Christmas tree, pine needles from the backyard), fresh fruit (apple, pear, more citrus) slices, cranberries or pomegranate, rosemary or other fresh herbs… pretty much whatever aromatic ingredients you have on hand. Get creative and have fun, just make sure you keep an eye on the water level and continue to add as needed.
